Schools Split on 'Open Campus'

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=940DE5DC163DF930A15753C1A96E948260&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=2

This article is about schools allowing students to go off campus or have a free period during lunch instead of eating in school. The audience is students, teachers and parents; because they want their input. The article interests me because that would be really awesome if our school would let us do that, but with our school someone would mess it up by not coming back or staying too late. I didn't really learn anything new, i just found out that schools really did let people go off campus.. i thought it was just in movies. and my question is..?? what about the cooks that use to cook for students? do they lose their jobs?

good morning sarah.

i think that you are right. it would be very awesome to have a lunch break that allowed students to leave the school. my sister is eleven years older then me, but she said that when she went to school here they were allowed to leave for lunch. i am jealous. i think that students would be so happy about the option that they would probably respect the rules and be back in time for class to start. although it does not really make much of a difference, because half the school leaves after lunch anyway.

Aw now I feel bad for the lunch ladies. Poor girls. What are they going to do? Try to promote their food?
"We have jello! With coolwhip!"
Poor things.

I disagree with Kinsey. I truly doubt people in this school would have any respect for the..ahem.."rules". Do they now? Consider some of the people we are talking about. For decency's sake I won't mention any names. But think of these certain people who would skip every day if they could. Yeah them. They would leave..stay gone for hours. MAYBE show up an hour after lunch is over.
It could work...but I doubt it. It would be super though. =]

Yeah you're right some idiot at this school would mess it up for us, but it would be awesome. But guess what? Next year we'll be in college and we'll be able to do that anyway. So, I don't think an open campus would be a good idea because personally I want everyone else to suffer of course that's just me and I don't have a heart.
